Impediments to the Application of Communicative Approach: Survey Among Saudi University Teachers

Communicative language teaching (CLT), which is considered to be a promising approach teaching-learning, has appeared as reaction situational approaches mainly focus on structures in limited contexts rather than communication. However, the applicability of communicative all still under debate. This study intends explore impediments university lecturers face applying Saudi Arabia’s social context. It also examines feasibility attaining competence central goal teaching. Twenty-six professors and from three universities were interviewed collect data. The findings revealed that context English foreign language, low learning outcomes at secondary school motivation learners are some successful implementation CLT. Moreover, demonstrated difficult attain society with an EFL without engaging various interactions multicultural real life. mere sensitization sociolinguistics will not serve purpose achieving competence.
